Livermore Shakes and Wente Vineyards revitalize Shakespeare in the Vineyard

Livermore – In As You Like It, Shakespeare’s heroine, Rosalind, begs “I pray you, do not fall in love with me, for I am falser than vows made in wine.” False vows aside, Livermore Shakespeare Festival producers and the team at Wente Vineyards Estate Winery & Tasting Room promise plenty of wine, love, laughs and culinary fare at the 2015 Livermore Shakespeare Festival. Shakespeare’s As You Like It and Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility
, adapted by Jon Jory, will be staged at the winery’s Tesla Road location, and while this is the company’s 13th season, it is the inaugural season at the Wente Vineyards location. Producing Artistic Director Lisa A. Tromovitch has revitalized the outdoor Shakespeare format by producing the shows at Wente in the round. “Staging Shakespeare in the round is a challenge that excites directors and audiences. Livermore Shakes is known for interacting freely with the audience, including them in the world of the play. Being ‘in the round’ will enhance the sense of patrons being a part of the playwright’s story. Everyone is closer to the action. I am excited to bring this sense of intimacy to our performances.”

Of course, the quintessential “Shakespeare in the Vineyard” experience will feature top quality theater set against the backdrop of the wine country sunset. Wente Vineyards will provide the  setting for the shows this summer at the Estate Winery & Tasting Room on Tesla Road. The grounds feature beautifully landscaped lawns and picnic tables, two different pre-show dining experiences and two indoor tasting rooms as well as an outdoor bar for wine and bottle purchases to be enjoyed while watching the performances. Guests can choose a pre-show buffet in the Estate Barrel room for a distinctly original dining experience. The buffet menu will feature seasonal fare and can be purchased as an add-on when pre-purchasing show tickets. For a more casual dining experience, Wente Vineyards will feature a snack food booth with wood-fired pizzetas, antipasto, popcorn, cotton candy and more. Snack food is sold a la carte and is available for purchase after 6pm on the grounds before the performances. The Estate Tasting Room and the newly opened The Winemakers Studio will be open for tastings until start of show and open during the show for purchases.

As You Like It and Sense and Sensibility will be performed on the grounds of Wente Vineyards Estate Winery & Tasting room at 5565 Tesla Road in Livermore. For dates and detailed information visit LivermoreShakes.org.  Tickets range from $25 to $50 and are day-dependent, with discounts for seniors, students and educators. Family Nights will be held on Thursday, July 2 (Sense and Sensibility) and Thursday, July 16th (As You Like It) with  $5 youth tickets (under 18).  For tickets call (925) 443-BARD or visit
