Dear LVJUSD Families,

We look forward to welcoming our students and families to the 2020-21 school year! After many months of research and planning, we are pleased to share that we have a clear path in front of us for teaching and learning throughout our district, even during a global pandemic. Our LVJUSD 2020-21 School Year Handbook is now available on our website and attached to this email. This handbook shares our detailed plans for the implementation of both distance and hybrid learning.

While our mode of instructional delivery has been modified and adapted, our commitment to our mission remains constant, to provide a positive, productive, and engaging learning experience and ensure that “Each student graduates with the skills needed to contribute and thrive in a changing world.”

As we begin the year in distance learning, we need to ensure that each child in our district has the necessary resources to connect online to teachers and classmates. Please watch your email for an online questionnaire that will ask whether your child needs a Chromebook, internet access, and/or free/reduced price meals. Please be sure to respond to your questionnaire so that we can ensure in advance that all of our students are ready to learn.

This handbook is designed for our entire district and is intended to answer the many questions we have been fielding from our parent and guardian community. If you feel you have additional questions that others may also have, please share your question via this form: Questions about the LVJUSD 2020-21 School Year.

If you have specific questions about your own child, we encourage you to send an email to your child’s principal so that you can receive personal information. Principals and office staff will be available to you on August 10th. Please check your school’s website for specific details about all pertinent back-to-school information.

Finally, we are very grateful to the many teachers, staff members, administrators and parents whose input guided the development of our 2020-21 learning plan. At our Board of Education’s direction, our Reopening Task Force, led by Assistant Superintendent Mike Biondi, collaborated throughout the summer to outline the basis of our work. By the first day of school, all of our employees will have spent substantial time preparing for this first trimester. We begin our year together in distance learning in keeping with State and County Health Department guidelines and eagerly anticipate the day when we can welcome our students back onto campus and into our classrooms.
