Title I Funded Schools Recognized for Excellence

May 5, Livermore, California – The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District is pleased to announce that two schools, Marylin Avenue Elementary School and Joe Michell K-8 School, have been recognized by the California Department of Education as Title I Academic Achieving Schools. This distinction is given to schools that have been honored as Gold Ribbon Schools, and also receive federal Title I funds that aid in meeting the educational needs of students living at or below the poverty level. Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District received five Gold Ribbon School awards this year and two of those Gold Ribbon winners are also Title I funded schools.

“Congratulations to Marylin Avenue Elementary School and Joe Michell K-8 School,” says Superintendent Kelly Bowers. “In addition to being awarded the 2016 California Gold Ribbon Distinction, both schools have received the additional honor of being named 2016 Exemplary Title I Academic Achieving Schools.   This is the highest State accolade that a Title I funded school may receive and is well deserved.  This recognition is a testament to the dynamic leadership, hardworking staff, incredible students, and supportive communities they serve,”  said Bowers.

These awards confirm that when staff, students and the local community work in partnership, Title I funded schools provide excellent learning outcomes for students.
