Rosanne Cash

LIVERMORE, CA – (September 30, 2015) – Country superstar Rosanne Cash, together with guitarist/songwriter John Leventhal, arrives in Livermore October 15, 2015 as part of the “River and Thread” tour, kicking off a weekend of American roots music at the Bankhead Theater. Released in 2014 and the winner of three Grammy Awards, Cash’s album “The River and The Thread” is a lyrical and evocative musical exploration of the history and landscape of her Southern heritage. The country sound continues at the Bankhead into the following night when the Wailin’ Jennys make a welcome return, bringing sweet three-part harmonies to their pleasurable mix of Americana, pop and traditional folk-roots music.

Since her breakout hit “Seven Year Ache” in 1987, singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash has touched millions with her appealing combination of country and American roots music. Long considered Nashville country music royalty, Cash found her way to “The River and The Thread” while on a journey through the Southern states to explore her personal family history. There she was inspired by such locations as Memphis, where she was born, the Tallahatchie Bridge of “Ode to Billie Joe” fame, and stories and characters from across generations of the Cash family. The result is a deeply satisfying album Rolling Stone magazine called “exquisitely profound,” describing its lead track “A Feather’s Not a Bird” as ”a triumph for Americana and American Roots music as a whole.” Since their Grammy Awards sweep, Cash and her longtime songwriting partner and husband John Leventhal have taken the album on tour, singing songs such as “Sunken Lands,” “Money Road,” and “Tell Heaven,” as well as other familiar favorites.

The Wailin' Jennys

The Wailin’ Jennys

The Wailin’ Jennys first appeared at the Bankhead in January 2014, filling the house with enthusiastic fans who have followed the trio since their debut album “40 Days” came out a decade ago. Although the three Canadian singer songwriters originally met up in what was to be a one-time-only performance in a small guitar shop, their voices blended so seamlessly and in such perfect harmonies, they could not resist the call to continue performing together. Soon they were appearing regularly on “A Prairie Home Companion” and filling venues across North America. The signature harmonies of Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody and Heather Masse are backed by their remarkable talents on a range of acoustic musical instruments, from guitar and banjo, to harmonica, upright bass and traditional bodhrán. The Wailin’ Jennys have become a beloved international folk act, their irresistible vocal style coming through in such songs as “One Voice,” “Glory Bound,” and “Bright Morning Stars.”

Tickets to see Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal on October 15th or the Wailin’ Jennys on October 16th are $62 or $79 each for adults and $16 for students.
