Health and Nutrition Event at Junction K-8 and Marylin Schools

Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) will host a special Health and Nutrition Event for students in the after school programs on Friday March 6th, at Junction K-8 School, and Monday March 9th, at Marylin Avenue Elementary School. Students from the LVJUSD BELIEVES educational enrichment after school program, Extended Student Services Program (ESS), and the PAL Program will be participating.   These events will be held at each sites’ multipurpose room (MPR) from 3-5 p.m.

After participating in enriching activities to learn more about health and nutrition, students will have a chance to engage in fun activities and sample nutritional food items.   Students will rotate through 6 different stations,   spending ten minutes learning about specific nutritional and health facts.  Stations will offer students samples of foods and/or an opportunity to become involved in a physical activity, including Salad Tasting, My Food Plate, Plant Parts, Yogurt Tasting, Smoothie Bike and Hula Hoop, and a Fruit and Vegetable Walk.

At this event, LVJUSD will also announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the Districts’ “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle” poster contest.  Students had the opportunity to submit a poster entry that reflected this theme and win a bicycle.  To end our exciting time learning about healthy eating and exercise, students will be motivated to dance to Zumba, led by a professional instructor.

If media would like to join these youngsters, please arrive a few minutes early to check in at the school multipurpose room.
