Hope HospiceDUBLIN, Calif. — The complex healthcare system in the U.S. can be daunting, to say the least. To help community members who are family caregivers, Hope Hospice presents, Navigating the Healthcare System: Becoming an Advocate for Your Loved One, on Saturday, June 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Speakers will include:

  • Debbie Emerson, MS, health educator and Hope Hospice community education volunteer
  • Julie Tavares, RN, case manager, Hope Hospice
  • Jill Biggs, RN, director of Volunteers, Hope Hospice
  • Leah Maxwell-Styles, Hope Hospice volunteer/family caregiver

They will help participants understand their rights and learn how to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and successfully advocate for their loved ones. The speakers will also provide guidance on how to handle hospitalizations (including the discharge process) and to utilize strategies for keeping track of health histories, medications, and medical appointments.
