LIVERMORE – It’s time again to let the dogs out for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District’s third annual Dogtoberfest.

Canines and their human counterparts are invited to Robert Livermore Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 to have a day of play. Everyone is encouraged to bring firends with dogs, ad Dogtoberfest plans to tackle the Guinness World Record for the “Most Dogs Wearing a bandana” for the third attempt.

The current world record was broken by Canberra, Australia, in 2015 with 764 dogs. The previous world record was 364 dogs, which LARPD surpassed the first year of Dogtoberfest with 371. In 2016, Dogtoberfest had 460 dogs in the record attempt. Event organizers and participants are ready to break the record in 2017.

In addition to the official world record attempt, Dogtoberfest offers plenty of other entertainment for people and their pets. Demonstrations will be performed by Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate, Sheep4Ewe co-op sheep herding and Livermore Police Department Officer Kody Cardana and K-9 Brag,. Dr. Conor Hoff from Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center and Urgent Care will be on site offering free vaccinations to the first 100 dogs that need them. Several rescue groups will be on hand to offer adoption opportunities: Animal Rescue Foundation, Big Dawgs Rescue, Paws in Need, Love and Second Chances Rescue, German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California, Livermore K-9 Foundation and Paws for Purple Hearts.

Grab some human food in the theme of Oktoberfest including pretzels, hotdogs and sausages. And no Oktoberfest celebration is complete without beer – Livermore’s own Shadow Puppet Brewing Company will have beer for sale. And since the event is in wine country, Wood Family Vineyards will also have wine for sale.

For the competitive types, there will be a Dog Costume Contest and a Dog & Owner Lookalike Contest. A variety of vendors will have booths for attendees to explore everything including animal portraits, homemade dog treats, City of Livermore dog licensing (bring proof of rabies vaccine), dog sunglasses, pet supplies, dog training and many more. Various giveaways for people and pets will be offered at the event, including Milk-Bone pill pouches. Plus all dogs participating in the Guinness World Record attempt will get a free bandana.

Attendees with dogs entering the Guinness World Record attempt can register online at www.larpd.org or register the day of the event starting at 11 a.m. The record attempt will be held at 12 noon, and participants must sign up their dogs, which must be at least 1 year of age.

Volunteers are still needed to help with check-in, demonstration assistance, information booths and more – especially to be World Record Stewards who help with the official count of dogs. Interested volunteers can contact 925-373-5765 or mswinbank@larpd.org.
