Livermore – The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District ranger staff is offering the following programs during the month of November. There is a $7 per vehicle parking fee at either entrance to Sycamore Grove Park, and a $3 donation is requested to help support the programs unless other fees are specified. There is an annual parking pass available that provides significant savings over the daily fee for regular park visitors. Participants may call 925-960-2400 for more information. Advance registration is required for some programs.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People: Almond Trail
Saturday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m.
Nice nature getaways can be found close to home. Join Ranger Danny for a slow-paced 1-mile walk beginning at Almond Park. People of all abilities are welcome, including adults with small children. The group will follow the paved trail to the Livermore skate park and back and talk about what can be seen along the way. No RSVP required. Meet at the picnic tables new Almond Avenue.

Pre-Winter Campfire
Sunday, Nov. 12, 4:30 p.m.
This time of year is beautiful in the park. Spend a delightful evening sitting by a crackling campfire. Enjoy some cocoa (provided) while learning a little about some of the nocturnal park residents and listening to stories. Please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and feel free to bring a hot dog to cook over the fire. Please call 925-960-2400 for reservations. Canceled if raining.

Early Morning Walk (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)
Saturday, Nov. 18, 8 a.m.
Join an early morning stroll through the Nature Area in Sycamore Grove Park to enjoy fall colors and, hopefully, spot wildlife going about their morning activities. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. This will be about a 2.5-mile walk on dirt trails, and no hill climbing. Canceled if raining.

Tracking Club

Join this program to discuss some of our feathered friends that leave tracks in the park. Participants will talk about bird foot morphology and possibly even track a turkey or two just in time for Thanksgiving. Canceled if raining heavily.

Gobble, gobble! Turkeys aren’t just on the table, they’re in our parklands too. Join this program to learn about wild turkeys and hopefully find some to admire. Crisp Evening Walk (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)

It’s the time of year when most people stay indoors near the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa – change the pace and take a walk outdoors instead. Participants will go for a walk through Sycamore Grove Park after the sun goes down. Please dress for the temperature and wear good shoes. This will be a leisurely stroll of 2.5 miles. Thanksgiving Hills Hike (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)
Saturday, Nov. 25, 10 a.m.
After a Thanksgiving feast, come burn off calories with a hike to the top of the park and enjoy the view. Please wear appropriate shoes, and be prepared for muddy trails if it has rained. The hike will go, rain or shine. It will include at least 5 miles on mostly unpaved trails.

Storytime Campfire with the Livermore Public Library
Sunday, Nov. 26, 3:30 p.m.
LARPD rangers and librarians from the Livermore Public Library will entertain families with children’s books about nature at a special Storytime Campfire in Sycamore Grove Park. Attendees will enjoy a warm beverage and a sweet treat. Children of all ages are welcome to attend. Please bring chairs or a blanket for your family to sit on. Canceled if raining. Registration is required and limited to the first 20 children. Registration opens Saturday, Oct. 28, by calling the Library at 925-373-5504.
