LIVERMORE – The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District ranger staff is offering the following programs during the month of October. There is a $7 per vehicle parking fee at either entrance to Sycamore Grove Park, and a $3 donation is requested to help support the programs unless other fees are specified. There is an annual parking pass available that provides significant savings over the daily fee for regular park visitors. Participants may call 925-960-2400 for more information. Advance registration is required for some programs.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People – Bring a Friend!
Saturday, Oct. 7 10 a.m.
Do you know someone who could benefit from a dose of nature, but who doesn’t get out due to issues with transportation, health, or concerns about safety? LARPD is joining up with the Healthy Parks, Healthy People program to make parks accessible to all. This will be an easy introduction to Sycamore Grove Park. After a short intro, participants will walk a total of 1 mile on a paved path at a slow pace. Please bring a friend who has never experienced the wonders of Sycamore Grove. Mention the Healthy Prks, Healty Poeple progrsam to the person in the kiosk and earn a free parking pass for the day.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (RSVP)
Saturday, Oct. 7 3 p.m.
Kids, bikes and a beautiful ride will celebrate the International Mountain Bicycling Association Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Sycamore Grove Park. Choose from two family-friendly rides: 1) Beginner Ride: 3 miles on a relatively flat dirt trail; good for kids learning to ride on dirt trails or kids in bike trailers accompanied by an adult on a mountain bike. 2) Intermediate Ride: 5-mile climb into the hills; good for intermediate level riders on fat-tire bikes with gears and hand brakes accompanied by an adult on a mountain bike. Hike with a View (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)
Sunday, Oct. 8 9 a.m.
Join Ranger Kyle for a wonderful hike into the less-traveled upper property of Sycamore Grove.
Participants will hike about 5 miles on both paved and unpaved trails with some hills involved.
Enjoy magnificent views of the Livermore Valley while learning about the various wildlife
around the area as well as discussing the history of the park. Bring plenty of water and a positive
attitude.

Movie Night in the Park
Friday, Oct. 13 6:30 p.m.
Join Rangers Danny and Doug for a Halloween-themed movie in the park. The family-friendly
film will be shown at the new gathering area known as “The Grove” near the Wetmore Road
entrance. The movie is rated PG. Parents on movie guide websites rate this film as appropriate
for ages 9 and older. The film will start at 6:45 p.m. Feel free to bring camp chairs and blankets
to hide behind, and be ready for a spooktacular evening.

Oaks and Acorns (RSVP)
Sunday, Oct. 15 1 p.m.
Join this short walk and talk to examine different oaks found in Livermore. Look for interesting
galls and talk about how important oaks and acorns were to the American Indians who lived in
this area and the process they used to make these nuts edible. There will be some replicas of
tools and baskets used in the process and, if all goes well, there will be some acorn porridge to

Early Morning Autumn Amble (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures cool, the sycamores, oaks and other flora display
the colors of autumn. Come out for a slow-paced walk through the Nature Area to observe these
changes and enjoy the new season. Good for all ages, bring a camera if you like. Participants will
earn 2.5 miles toward the “70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge.”

Zombie Walk (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge) (RSVP)
Saturday, Oct. 21 6 p.m.
Come dressed as your favorite member of the undead and shuffle through the park on a ghoulish
2.5-mile hike. Eat and drink some zombie-themed treats while learning about some real zombies
found in nature. Participants will earn 2.5 miles toward the “70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge.”
This walk may be scary for young children. Meet at the new gathering area, “The Grove,” about
300 feet down the paved path from the Wetmore Road parking lot. To make reservations, please

Halloween Fun (RSVP)
Sunday, Oct. 22 4:30 p.m.
It’s that time of year again – ghosts, goblins, witches and ghouls are haunting everyone’s minds.
Partake in some early celebrating with spooky games (with prizes), pumpkin carving, sing-a-long
songs around a campfire and learning the history of Halloween. This program will last about two
and a half hours. Please bring your own pumpkin and carving tools if you have them. Carving
stencils will be provided, and there will be a few tools to borrow. The barbecue will be hot and
ready for anyone who would like to cook dinner. Hot chocolate and fixins’ for s’mores will also

Mountain Lion: Facts vs. Fiction
Saturday, Oct. 28 4 p.m.
We live in mountain lion country, but how much do you really know about these keystone
predators? Come learn what information is true, what is hyperbole and what is just plain wrong
when it comes to these animals. This program will help clear up much of the misinformation,
provide safety tips and introduce you to Simon the Stuffed Cougar. Meet at “The Grove”
gathering area about 300 feet down the paved path from the Wetmore Road entrance.

Pre-Halloween Hike (70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge)

Get a head start on burning off all that Halloween candy. Participants will earn 5 miles toward
the 70 Miles for 70 Years Challenge heading uphill to the new Harrier Loop trail to get a great
view of the valley. This hike will be moderately strenuous, but the group can take its time.
