LIVERMORE, CA – (September 11, 2017) – Now celebrating more than 50 years on the stage and in the studio, folk music legend Tom Rush makes a welcome return to the Bankhead Theater on Friday, October 6, 2017 for a concert of familiar favorites and new songs. His songwriting gifts, distinctive acoustic guitar style, warm stage presence, and expressive voice have endeared Rush to a worldwide audience. He helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s, and his influence extended into the renaissance of the ’80s, ’90s and beyond. Considered an inspiration by many of the greatest guitar players of our time, Tom Rush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound.

Rush’s exceptional and long-lasting music career sprang from his days as a Harvard student during the early 1960s, where he built a loyal audience playing in local clubs and coffee houses. By the time he graduated, Rush had already released two albums. He displayed then, as he does today, an uncanny knack for finding wonderful songs, and writing his own – many of which have become classics re-interpreted by new generations. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks are among the many artists who have credited his influence on their music, and his unique style continues to resonate with many of today’s emerging artists. It is a tribute to Rush’s talents that his music has found success across a full range of styles and genres.

Over the years, Rush has released nearly two dozen recordings and is currently working on a new album. “What I Know” in 2009 marked his first full-length studio album after a long hiatus and was awarded Folk Album of the Year by the International Folk Alliance. A video of Rush singing “The Remember Song,” with a wry tone and self-effacing humor aimed directly at fans of his own generation, went viral on YouTube scoring over seven million views to date.

Rush maintains a busy touring schedule. His shows are a musical celebration filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads, and the passion of gritty blues. He effortlessly connects with his audiences, clearly demonstrating what the Cincinnati City Beat described as “a supernatural ability to inhabit a song and inform it with his unique sense of purpose, humor and wonder.”
